Selling a car in Queensland? The key paperwork is the Vehicle Registration Transfer application with Transport and Main Roads, plus a current Queensland Safety Certificate if the car is registered and you’re advertising it for sale.
Fill out the transfer (paper or online), swap details and signatures with the buyer, and make sure the buyer lodges it within 14 days—then the bean-counters slug them for transfer fees and duty, not you.
You must have the safety certificate before advertising and display it when offering the vehicle for sale; exemptions are limited and “couldn’t be bothered” doesn’t count.
Keep a signed receipt, note the odometer, remove personal plates if you’re keeping them, and cancel toll tags—because paying for someone else’s trip to Ipswich is a bit rich.
