selling a car privately qld Page 3

In Queensland, the headline act is a Queensland Safety Certificate from an Approved Inspection Station—get it before you advertise a registered car, and display it in the ad and on the car. Clean it, take honest photos, and assemble the paperwork: service history, rego details, and a PPSR that proves there’s no lurking finance. When the money lands, issue a proper receipt with VIN, odometer, date and price, and wipe your data from the infotainment like you’re leaving the scene of a crime—legally.

Transfer the rego with TMR online or at a Customer Service Centre within 14 days; the buyer cops the transfer fees and duty, you keep copies of the Safety Certificate and receipt. Selling it unregistered? Remove and surrender the plates to TMR and consider an unregistered vehicle permit if it needs to be driven. Pro tip: bank transfer verified in-branch is your friend, and keys don’t change hands until funds do.
