selling a registered car in qld Page 3

In Queensland, selling a registered car starts with a current Queensland Safety Certificate—no certificate, no advertising, simple as that.

Get it from an Approved Inspection Station, fix any defects, and have the certificate ready to show buyers.

Write up a receipt with names, addresses, VIN, rego, sale price, date and time; keep copies like they’re your nan’s secret pav recipe.

After the handshake, lodge the registration transfer with TMR (online is easiest) within 14 days; the buyer pays transfer fees and duty.

Clear any finance, remove your toll tag, and tell your insurer the car’s gone to a new home.

Selling it unregistered? Different ballgame—no safety certificate required, but you’ll need a permit if it’s going on public roads.
