Selling a used car in Victoria isn’t exactly Shakespeare, but there are a few acts to perform.
Get a Certificate of Roadworthiness (RWC) dated within 30 days of transfer unless you’re selling it unregistered or to a licensed motor car trader.
Complete the transfer with the buyer via myVicRoads (or the transfer form) and make sure the buyer lodges it within 14 days; they’ll cop the stamp duty and transfer fee.
Hand over a signed receipt, the RWC, and both sets of keys; then remove toll tags, wipe your personal data, and cancel or switch your insurance—no one likes funding a stranger’s road trip to Wagga.
If selling unregistered, no RWC’s required, plates come off, and the buyer will need a permit to drive it; a quick PPSR check never hurts either.
