Selling a QLD-registered car to someone in NSW? Easy enough, but there are hoops because states adore paperwork.
If you’re selling it registered in Queensland, you generally must supply a current QLD Safety Certificate (RWC); the NSW buyer then re-registers it in NSW with a Blue Slip inspection, proof of purchase and ID, and pays NSW stamp duty and rego.
Prefer to dodge the certificate circus? Remove the plates, cancel the QLD rego for a refund of the unused portion, and sell it unregistered; the buyer can grab a temporary permit and do the NSW Blue Slip on arrival.
Either way, lodge a QLD Notice of Disposal promptly so any future fines don’t love-letter their way to you, and keep a copy of the receipt/PPSR for your records.
Yes, the buyer can drive it home on the QLD plates if it’s still registered and insured, but the rego will need to be converted to NSW promptly once it’s garaged there.
