selling your own house Page 24

Yes, you can sell your own house in Australia, and keep the agent’s commission from taking a scenic drive out of your pocket.

You’ll need to set a realistic price, handle marketing and enquiries, run inspections, and negotiate like a grown‑up.

Get a solicitor or conveyancer to prepare the contract and required disclosures, then guide you through exchange and settlement.

Expect costs for photography, listing fees, signage and conveyancing; still often less than paying roughly 1.5–3% in commission.

The upside is control and savings; the downside is time, stress, and the risk of mispricing or missing qualified buyers an agent might wrangle.

Do your homework on recent sales, tidy and stage the place, and be ready with ID checks and buyer screening—confidence is contagious, desperation isn’t.
