service steering column lock Page 27

Ah, the elusive steering column lock service—usually a sign your car is either being too secure or just plain stubborn. This lock is designed to prevent theft by immobilising the steering wheel when the key is out. Servicing it typically involves lubricating the lock mechanism, checking the ignition switch, and sometimes replacing the tumblers if worn out.

Common issues include:

• Key sticking or jamming
• Steering wheel not unlocking
• Electrical problems related to the ignition switch

DIY is possible, but if your car refuses to budge, a professional service from a reputable mechanic or a visit to ServiceCentral might be your best bet. Remember, forcing things only makes it worse, much like most things in life.
