Ah, the silver grey snake—one of Australia’s lesser-known serpents that’s more silver screen than silver terror. Officially dubbed the Drysdalia coronoides, this little fellow is a small, venomous snake generally measuring under 50 cm. It prefers moist forested areas in southeastern Australia, so don’t expect to find it sunbaking in the Outback. While its venom isn’t typically deadly to humans, it’s certainly best admired from a respectful distance.

Common issues with encounters include:

• Mistaking it for harmless snakes (or worse, a garden hose).
• Habitat loss due to urban sprawl.
• Climate change affecting its preferred damp environments.

If you’re curious about spotting one or need expert advice, check out local wildlife forums or dedicated Aussie reptile groups. Remember, leave the snake alone; it’s not out for a cuddle.
