If you want to say “sit” in Chinese (Mandarin), the verb is 坐 (pronounced zuò).
“Please sit” is 请坐 (qǐng zuò), and “I sit on the chair” is 我坐在椅子上 (wǒ zuò zài yǐzi shàng)—polite, tidy, like a school assembly.
If you mean a political “sit‑in,” that’s 静坐 (jìngzuò), which sounds calm and absolutely isn’t.
One tip: 坐下 (zuòxià) is “sit down,” while just 坐 does the job in most cases. There, linguistic tush parked.
