In Queensland it’s generally legal to sleep in your car if you’re parked legally and not breaching local “no camping” bylaws. Always check signage, council rules, and avoid national parks or beach zones that prohibit overnight stays. If you’ve been drinking, don’t sleep in the driver’s seat or with keys in the ignition—being “in charge” can still land you a drink‑driving charge. Use designated rest areas or truck stops, don’t block driveways or fire trails, and keep some ventilation without turning the cabin into a buffet for mozzies. Learners and P‑platers must have zero BAC; open licences have a 0.05 limit, but the “in charge” risk still applies. Park smart, stay sober, and you’ll be fine—bring an eye mask unless you enjoy waking up with the magpies.
