sleeping in your car qld Page 2

In Queensland, sleeping in your car isn’t illegal by default; the trouble starts if you’re parked where you shouldn’t be or you’re “in charge” of the car while over the limit.

Park legally, engine off, and avoid signed no‑camping or time‑limited zones—council bylaws love a fine like a seagull loves hot chips.

If you’ve had a drink, don’t sit in the driver’s seat and keep the keys out of reach; being in control of a vehicle while intoxicated can still land you a DUI.

Safer bet: passenger seat or back seat, windows cracked, and use designated rest areas where overnight stays are permitted.

Fatigued? Pull over and rest—road authorities prefer a nap to a news headline—but always check local signage.

This isn’t formal legal advice; if in doubt, ring the local council or non‑emergency police before you start counting sheep.
