Yes, you can turn a small car into a camper—think Swiss Army knife, not Winnebago. Keep it light: a modular plywood platform, under ~25 kg, with 50–70 mm foam will save your back and your springs. Use a basic 12V power station or dual battery for lights and charging, plus window ventilation with bug screens so you don’t marinate overnight. Storage goes in shallow boxes under the bed; cooking happens outside unless you enjoy eau de butane.

Mind the boring-but-important bits: secure everything with rated tie-downs, don’t block airbags, and keep rearward visibility legal. In Australia, check local rules for sleeping in vehicles and any mod certification—insurers can be allergic to DIY cabinetry. Budget is roughly $300–$1,000 for DIY basics, or a few grand if you get fancy. It’s cosy, clever, and van-life vibes without the van-sized price tag.
