Looking to juice up your EV with some sunshine? A solar EV charger harnesses solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity, providing a green and often cost-effective way to charge your electric vehicle. Typical systems range from small portable units to full home installations with arrays generating anywhere from 1.5 kW to 10 kW or more.

Prices vary widely: a basic setup might start around $1,000 AUD, while a full home solar charging system can push past $10,000 AUD, depending on capacity and installation complexity. For used gear or DIY components, marketplaces like Tradingpost might be your treasure trove.

Remember, solar charging speed is at the mercy of weather and daylight hours, so it’s not always as quick as plugging into the grid. Still, for the eco-warrior with patience, it’s a clean, clever solution. Consult official manuals or a solar specialist to tailor the system to your EV’s battery specs and your roof’s sunlight quota.
