Ah, the humble spider, Australia's eight-legged little terror and unsung hero. These critters range from the harmless garden variety to some genuinely venomous nasties like the Redback and Funnel-web. Australia is home to over 2,400 species of spiders, with sizes varying from tiny dots to the intimidating huntsman, which can reach up to 15 centimetres in leg span.
While most spiders are beneficial, munching on pesky insects, a few can cause real trouble, so it's wise to keep an eye out in your shoes and bedding. If you're hunting for a pet tarantula or spider for your collection, check out PuppyList or Tradingpost to find local options.
Remember, despite their fearsome reputation, spiders are more afraid of you than you are of them—mostly.
