Queensland charges motor vehicle duty (stamp duty) based on the car’s dutiable value and engine type.
Rates are roughly: 1–4 cylinders/2 rotors = 3%; 5–6 cylinders/3 rotors = 3.5%; 7+ cylinders = 4%; hybrids = 2%; electric or hydrogen = 2%.
Example: a $30,000 4‑cyl petrol is about $900; a $30,000 V6 is about $1,050; a $30,000 EV or hybrid is about $600.
This is separate to registration and CTP, so don’t spend the rego money on floor mats and a sausage sizzle.
Figures can change, so use the Queensland Government calculator and your dealer’s contract for the final number.
