In Queensland, stamp duty on a used car (technically vehicle registration duty) is based on the car’s dutiable value and cylinder count, so yes, size matters.
The brackets are simple: 1–4 cylinders (or 2 rotors) = $3 per $100 of value; 5–6 cylinders (or 3 rotors) = $3.50 per $100; 7+ cylinders = $4 per $100.
“Dutiable value” is usually the purchase price or market value—whichever is higher—so no, your barn-find bargain isn’t magically worth fifty bucks.
Example: a $20,000 four‑cylinder attracts about $600; the same value with six cylinders is roughly $700.
Other transfer/registration fees are extra, and rates can change, so check the latest from Queensland TMR before doing driveway maths.
