targa car rally Page 8766

A Targa car rally is a tarmac event run on closed public roads, where production-based cars tackle timed special stages and the stopwatch is judge, jury, and bragging rights. In Australia that usually means scenic chaos like Targa Tasmania or Targa West, with everything from classics to modern missiles slicing through the bends.

There are speed-limited touring classes for the sensible among us, and full competition classes for those who think sleep is for tyres. Cars are typically road-legal and fitted with appropriate safety gear (helmets at minimum; cages, seats and harnesses for serious runners), and you’ll need a navigator who can read pace notes without screaming. It’s part motorsport, part road trip, and entirely addictive—just read the event regulations before you rock up with a roll cage and a dream.
