Tokyo Mobility Show 2023 (formerly the Tokyo Motor Show) was a buffet of battery dreams and audacious prototypes, proving Japan still does theatre better than your group chat.

Headliners included Toyota’s FT-Se and FT-3e concepts, Mazda’s sleek Iconic SP rotary-electric sports car, Honda’s revived Prelude Concept, and Nissan’s wild Hyper series.

Subaru, Lexus and others piled in with EV and hybrid ideas, while bikes, robots and curious little pods reminded everyone it’s not just about cars anymore.

The big themes: electrification everywhere, software swagger, and design cues you’ll start spotting in showrooms before too long.

Don’t expect every spaceship to land in production, but do expect the tech and styling to trickle down to models destined for Australia over the next few years.

Think neon-lit future postcard: fewer tailpipes, more torque, and enough concept-car drama to power a small karaoke bar.
