Wondering what the top most expensive car is? Here’s the scoreboard in a world where price tags need a seatbelt: the most expensive car ever sold is the 1955 Mercedes‑Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé, auctioned in 2022 for about €135 million—roughly AUD 210–220 million—for one decidedly priceless prototype.

For something you could actually register, the Rolls‑Royce Boat Tail tops the new‑car charts at around USD 28 million (about AUD 40–45 million), with Bugatti’s La Voiture Noire loitering nearby. Those numbers wobble with exchange rates, taxes, and bespoke frou‑frou, but you get the idea. The rest of us will admire from a safe distance and keep our rego paid on time.
