Hobart’s neighbours aren’t exactly shy, starting with Glenorchy just up the road and Kingston about 10–15 km south across the river of peak-hour sighs.
Head east and you’ll hit Sorell in roughly 25–30 km, with historic Richmond a similar hop inland.
To the north you’ve got Brighton and Bridgewater in the 20–30 km bracket, while New Norfolk lounges about 30–40 km up the Derwent.
Southward brings Margate and Blackmans Bay around the 15–25 km mark, with Huonville roughly 35–40 km if you fancy apples and scenery.
For a coastal detour try Lauderdale and Dodges Ferry, about 20–40 km depending on which bakery lures you off course.
