toyota apple carplay retrofit australia

Yes—many late-2010s Toyota models in Australia can be retrofitted with Apple CarPlay via a dealer update, but eligibility depends on the exact head unit and VIN.

Dealers typically perform a software/firmware update (sometimes with a small hardware patch), taking under an hour and costing roughly AUD 150–300. The safest play is to give your VIN to a Toyota service department and ask whether your car is on the retrofit list and what the fee is.

If your model isn’t eligible, an aftermarket head unit with CarPlay is the fallback, usually AUD 500–1,500 fitted, steering-wheel control adapters and fascia kits included. It’s cleaner to keep it OEM, but done properly the aftermarket route works a treat and won’t turn the dash into a Christmas tree.

Either way, you’ll end up with proper plug-and-play maps, calls, and tunes—no more suction-cup sat-nav doing the wobbly dance.
