toyota dpf issues Page 1073

Toyota’s 2.8L and 2.4L diesels (HiLux, Fortuner, Prado circa 2015–2020) had well-known DPF dramas in Aussie stop–start driving.

Expect frequent regens, rough idle, white smoke during burns, and fuel economy that makes your wallet sigh.

• Soot loading from short trips; DPF never gets hot enough to burn off.
• Clogged EGR or faulty differential pressure sensors skew readings.
• Outdated ECU calibration delaying or mishandling active regens.
• DPF damage from prolonged overload or contamination.

Typical fixes: updated ECU software, inspection/replacement of sensors or injectors, and regular highway runs; some vehicles received revised hardware or new DPFs under warranty.

Skip the illegal DPF delete and get a proper diagnosis from a technician who knows these engines—your lungs and insurance will thank you.
