transfer car ownership wa Page 118

Transferring car ownership in Western Australia is a bureaucratic dance that involves a few key steps. First, both buyer and seller need to complete the transfer form, which you can grab from the Department of Transport or their website. You’ll also need to provide the vehicle’s registration papers and a valid safety inspection report if the car isn’t brand spanking new.

The buyer must submit the transfer application and pay a transfer fee, which currently sits around $36.30 AUD. Keep in mind, if you dawdle beyond the 14-day window after purchase, you’ll be slapped with a late transfer penalty. The whole shebang is handled online or in person, and you can find more nitty-gritty details on the Department of Transport’s site or via ServiceCentral.
