Transferring a vehicle in WA is less thrilling than a school zone, but it’s straightforward.
The seller lodges a Notification of Disposal via DoTDirect (or the MR9 form), the buyer jumps into DoTDirect to transfer the licence, pays the transfer fee and vehicle licence duty, and everyone keeps their plates where they belong—on the car.
Have the VIN, rego, odometer reading and each party’s details handy, and make sure the car is currently licensed; if it’s unlicensed or defected, an inspection may be required first.
Do it within the required Department of Transport timeframes to dodge late fees, and keep a solid paper trail (receipt/contract) just in case.
CTP is bundled with WA rego, so once it’s transferred, you’ve got basic cover sorted.
