You don’t actually “transfer” ACT rego to NSW; you cancel ACT and register the car fresh in NSW.
Step one: get a NSW Blue Slip (AUVIS) inspection to verify identity and roadworthiness, then buy a NSW CTP Green Slip in your name.
Take proof of identity and NSW address, proof of ownership, and the Blue Slip to Service NSW, pay stamp duty, registration and plate fees, and walk out with NSW plates.
If the car still wears ACT plates, hand them back to Access Canberra for any pro‑rata refund and to avoid fines; don’t keep driving around hoping no one notices.
New NSW residents generally have up to 3 months to switch, but if you’ve just bought an ACT‑registered car, sort the NSW rego before using it long‑term.
It’s bureaucracy with extra bolts, but once done you can enjoy your motoring without the paperwork gremlins.
