In WA, you can move your personalised number plates from your old car to your new one—it’s your right to display the combo, not a lifelong bond to the bumper.
Log in to DoTDirect or visit a Driver and Vehicle Services centre, request a plate transfer/assignment to the new vehicle, and bring ID, the plate details, and the new car’s VIN/rego.
Expect a transfer/admin fee and, if you need a fresh set made, a remake fee; then fit the plates to the new car and update your insurer.
Selling the old car? Fit standard plates (or another set) before handover—don’t let your personalised plates disappear with the trade-in.
Rules and fees can change, so check the Department of Transport (WA) guidance before you queue like it’s Boxing Day sales.
