transporting vehicles from state to state Page 19

Moving a car interstate in Australia is less epic than The Nullarbor suggests—just pick your poison: drive it yourself, hire a pro car carrier, or go rail/sea for long hauls.

Typical open-carrier prices are roughly $400–$800 for nearby hops (e.g., Brisbane–Sydney), $600–$1,000 for Sydney–Melbourne, and $1,500–$3,000+ across the continent (hello Perth), with enclosed transport costing more.

Timing ranges from 3–14 days depending on distance and consolidation, and bigger 4WDs or non-runners attract surcharges.

Get a condition report, check insurance (yours and theirs), remove loose gear, and make sure rego or transport permits are sorted—saves arguments and grey hairs later.

For quotes, compare a few carriers; Tradingpost and ServiceCentral can be handy starting points.
