tyre age limit south australia Page 6

Short answer: South Australia has no specific legal age limit for tyres—it’s all about condition.

The law cares about having at least 1.5 mm tread across the central area, the correct load and speed ratings, and no cracks, bulges, or exposed cords.

Rubber hardens with time, so many fitters suggest replacement around 5–6 years, and inspecting or retiring anything over 10 years is just good sense.

Check the DOT date code (week/year), keep pressures right, rotate regularly, and if you see age cracking, don’t argue with physics—replace them.
