The Great Central Road is long, corrugated and patience‑testing, so drop tyre pressures a touch to let the sidewalls work.
For most loaded 4WDs on corrugations, aim around 26–30 psi (180–205 kPa); trailers generally like 24–28 psi (165–195 kPa), adjusting for weight, tyre size and heat.
Keep speeds down (think 70–80 km/h or less when it’s ugly), pause to cool hot tyres, and dodge sharp rocks like they owe you money.
Reinflate to your normal highway pressures before hitting the bitumen again, and carry a decent gauge, compressor and puncture kit because out there, help is mostly “you.”
Conditions swing with weather, grading and load, so treat these as starting points and use feel and common sense—your tyres will thank you, your fillings too.
