used car price drop Page 805

Used car prices in Australia are finally easing after the 2020–2022 spike, with many segments down roughly 10–20% from the peak.

Stock has improved, interest rates are higher, and new-car discounts are back, which pulls second-hand values back into the realms of sanity.

Expect popular dual-cab utes and tidy SUVs to hold firmer, while EVs and thirsty V8s slide faster as new models and sharper deals arrive.

On the new side, mainstream brands are offering run-out and plate-clearance savings—often about AUD 1,000–5,000 off—nudging used prices lower; in the used lane, private listings often undercut dealers but skip warranties and statutory rights.

Best hunting times are end of month, EOFY, and model changeovers; regional markets can move slower than big-city lots.

Bottom line: prices are softening, but not quite back to 2019—so haggle, be patient, and don’t fall in love on the test drive.
