Homologated by Triple Eight as “Chevrolet Racing”, the Camaro-bodied racers are silhouette specials—V8 thunder, tube frames, and not a road-going part in sight. Camaro teams came out swinging: Brodie Kostecki won the drivers’ title in an Erebus Camaro, Erebus bagged the teams’ crown, and van Gisbergen/Stanaway won the Bathurst 1000 in a Triple Eight Camaro. There were parity squabbles (because of course there were), but the racing was fierce and the crowds got their noise quota. If you’re expecting a showroom Camaro in Australia, don’t—this is a purpose-built race car wearing a familiar frock.
