vic car transfer fee Page 78

In Victoria, the “car transfer fee” is the small admin sting; the real wallop usually comes from motor vehicle duty (stamp duty) based on the car’s dutiable value.

You can lodge the transfer online via myVicRoads within 14 days of purchase, or cop late fees for dawdling.

Expect to pay the transfer fee, duty, and any plate or registration add‑ons; the seller generally provides a Roadworthy Certificate unless the transfer is exempt.

Have ID, the signed transfer paperwork, the odometer reading, and proof of sale price handy so VicRoads can calculate the duty correctly.

Bottom line: budget for more than just the “fee” — duty is the big ticket, so check the current VicRoads amounts before you whip out the card.
