vic child seat laws Page 2

Ah, child seat laws in Victoria—because apparently, kids don't come with their own airbags. In Victoria, all children under 7 years old must use a child restraint that is appropriate for their age and size. This means rear-facing seats for infants, forward-facing seats with harnesses for toddlers, and booster seats for older kids until they’re big enough to use a seatbelt alone.

Key points:

• Children under 6 months: must be in a rear-facing seat.
• Children 6 months to 4 years: must use either rear-facing or forward-facing seats with a harness.
• Children 4 to 7 years: must use a forward-facing seat or booster seat.
• Children 7 years and older: must use a seatbelt.

Non-compliance can lead to fines and demerit points, so don’t be that parent who thinks their kid is invincible. For the nitty-gritty, check official VicRoads guidelines or browse Tradingpost for approved child seats.
