The Victorian “ZLEV distance-based charge” (the EV tax) was struck down by the High Court in October 2023 as unconstitutional, so it’s no longer being collected.

If you own an EV or PHEV, you don’t need to submit distance reports for that scheme, and any invoicing under it has been paused.

The state has directed motorists to VicRoads for updates on refunds/credits and next steps—keep an eye on official notices.

Future road-user charging could still emerge federally, but for now in Victoria the original EV tax is parked—like a Leaf hoarding a fast charger.
