vic road selling car Page 330

Selling a car in Victoria is a VicRoads-flavoured treasure hunt: receipts, forms, and a Roadworthy Certificate if it’s registered. Hand the buyer a current Victorian RWC (issued within 30 days), a signed receipt with VIN/odometer/price, and complete the online transfer within 14 days—then lodge your notice of disposal so the fines follow them, not you. The buyer pays transfer fees and duty; you keep copies of everything like a paranoid librarian. Plates stay with the car in Victoria, but if they’re personalised and you’re attached, swap them at VicRoads before the sale. If the car’s unregistered, no RWC is needed to sell, but the buyer will need one to re‑register. Oh, and make sure there’s no finance owing—PPSR check now beats awkward phone calls later.
