vic road transfer fee Page 153

In Victoria, you’ll pay a small transfer fee to put the car in your name, and separately you’ll cop motor vehicle duty calculated on the sale price or market value (whichever is higher). Do the transfer within 14 days of purchase or the fines fairy comes knocking. Most used-car transfers need a current Roadworthy Certificate, unless an exemption applies. The seller should lodge a Notice of Disposal, while you submit the transfer and pay the fees online via your myVicRoads account or at a customer service centre. Family transfers and club-permit situations can have special rules, because bureaucracy loves a plot twist. Fees and duty rates change, so check the latest from VicRoads before you open the wallet.
