Changing registration with VicRoads is mostly paperwork with a dash of patience—nothing a coffee can’t fix.
If you’ve bought or sold a car in Victoria, complete the transfer within 14 days via your myVicRoads account or at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre.
You’ll typically need a Certificate of Roadworthiness, a completed transfer form, proof of identity, and to pay the transfer fee plus motor vehicle duty (based on sale price or market value).
Private sales usually require the roadworthy; dealer sales, inherited vehicles, club permits and heavy vehicles have their own twists.
Make sure the odometer reading and buyer/seller details match, save the receipt, and don’t forget to cancel or transfer any toll tags and insurance.
Miss the 14-day window and you may cop a late fee, so hop to it—your future self (and your rego) will thank you.
