vicroads registration fees 2021 Page 117

Hunting for VicRoads registration fees for 2021? Here’s the unglamorous truth: there isn’t one magic number—your total depends on a bundle of charges.

Expect a base registration fee, a TAC charge (the compulsory injury insurance component), and—if you’re first registering or transferring—motor vehicle duty plus any number plate fee. Costs vary by vehicle class (passenger, light commercial, motorcycle), whether you’re metro vs regional, any concessions, and whether you pay 6 or 12 months. For most everyday passenger cars it adds up to several hundred dollars per year, with duty only appearing on purchases/transfers. To get the exact damage, use the VicRoads fee calculator or their published schedules—because your car’s details matter more than your guesswork.
