In Victoria, a VicRoads VIV (Vehicle Identity Validation) check is the mandatory identity inspection for a repaired write-off on the WOVR—it's about proving the car is genuinely itself, not judging panel gaps.
It verifies VINs and engine numbers, checks for stolen parts and dodgy histories, and reviews your paperwork; it is not a roadworthy, so you’ll still need an RWC afterwards. You book through VicRoads, pay a few hundred dollars, and bring ID, repair photos, and receipts for major parts. Statutory write-offs can’t be re-registered; repairable write-offs may be, if they pass VIV and later roadworthy/registration checks. Make sure every ID plate and stamp is intact and consistent, or the only thing getting rebirthed is your weekend.
