victoria ev road tax Page 4

In Victoria, as of recent regulations, electric vehicles (EVs) do face a specific road user charge which is effectively a tax on electricity usage for driving. This replaces the traditional fuel excise for petrol and diesel vehicles. The charge is calculated based on the distance travelled, with a rate set to roughly match the equivalent fuel tax to level the playing field.

Currently, the rate is around 2.5 cents per kilometre for electric vehicles. This means that while EV owners save on fuel costs, they still contribute to road maintenance funding.

Keep an eye on official updates from VicRoads and the Victorian Government for any changes. For buying or selling EVs with these considerations, check listings on Tradingpost or CarShowroom.
