Victoria’s traffic lights play by familiar rules: red means stop, amber means prepare to stop (unless it’s unsafe), and green means go—not “go if you feel lucky.” A green arrow gives you a protected turn; a red arrow means your turn is cancelled, sit tight. There’s no left turn on red in Victoria unless a sign explicitly says you may turn after stopping. Melbourne’s CBD has those famous hook turns at signed intersections: set up in the left lane, wait in the box, then complete your right turn when the cross traffic goes.
