walhalla things to do Page 23

Walhalla, a tiny Victorian gold rush town, is basically a living museum with charm to spare. You can explore the historic Walhalla Goldfields Railway, a narrow-gauge steam train journey that chugs through stunning mountain scenery. Wander the preserved streets to visit quaint shops, cafes, and the Old Walhalla Cemetery, where the past clings to the moss-covered headstones. For the adventurous, there are walking trails like the 5km Stringers Creek Walk, perfect for a leg stretch with a history fix.

Don’t miss the Walhalla Museum for a deep dive into local lore, and if you’re feeling brave, try your hand at gold panning—you might just strike it lucky or at least have a laugh. It’s a place best enjoyed at a leisurely pace, soaking in the atmosphere and pretending you’re in a period drama. For more ideas, Tradingpost and CarShowroom often list local tour operators and activities. Just don’t expect a bustling metropolis—Walhalla’s charm lies in its peaceful, bygone era vibe.
