western australia demerit points Page 862

In Western Australia, demerit points stack up over a rolling three‑year period; collect enough and the Department of Transport gives your licence a time-out.

For full licence holders the magic (or tragic) number is 12 points; learners and provisional drivers have lower limits, so they hit the penalty box sooner.

Most offences add 1–6 points, and during holiday periods WA runs Double Demerits on selected offences, so that cheeky speed creep can suddenly cost twice as much.

Points stick around for three years from the offence date, so they don’t vanish just because your calendar flipped; drive clean to let them expire.

If you’re close to the edge, check your tally through the WA Department of Transport before the next road trip—nothing ruins a weekend like discovering you’ve just earned an unwanted walking tour.
