In Queensland, children under 4 cannot sit in the front seat if the vehicle has two or more rows—no debate, no “but they asked nicely.” Kids aged 4 to under 7 may only sit up front if all rear seats are already occupied by children under 7, and they must use the correct child restraint. In a single‑row vehicle (like many utes), they can sit in the front using an appropriate restraint for their age and size. From 7 years onward, the front seat is allowed, but the back is still the safer choice—airbags don’t do diplomacy. Always use the right restraint and adjust the seat as far back as practical if an airbag is fitted. Laws change, but common sense shouldn’t.
