In 2023, no mainstream passenger cars are manufactured in Australia; mass production wrapped up by 2017 and the showroom stock is now imported.
What remains is niche: low-volume builders and race-car outfits (think track specials) still screw things together here, but you won’t find them at the average suburban dealer.
Large US pickups are remanufactured to right-hand drive locally (RAM Trucks Australia and GMSV), which is clever engineering but not full-blown cradle-to-grave manufacturing.
The upside? Plenty of local expertise in engineering, conversions and motorsport, even if the assembly lines are silent.
So yes, Aussie-made cars in 2023 exist, but they’re specialty pieces rather than your everyday commuter.
