Autonomous means something that operates by itself, without you hovering over every switch like a nervous seagull.

In cars and tech, it’s systems that sense the world—cameras, radar, lidar, GPS—and then decide and act with minimal human input.

Think lane-keeping and adaptive cruise (Level 2), not a robot chauffeur that argues with the sat-nav and wins; true Level 4–5 isn’t on Aussie roads for everyday use.

It still needs rules, maps, and plenty of testing, because “set and forget” is grand for slow cookers, less so for traffic.

In short: self-governing, clever, occasionally smug, and still your responsibility when things get pear-shaped.
