wheel comes off car while driving Page 8772

If a wheel parts company mid‑drive, keep the steering straight, ease off the throttle, and let the car scrub speed; jumping on the brakes can make it dig in and pirouette.

Grip the wheel, indicate if you can, and guide the car to a flat, safe shoulder before braking gently to a halt.

Hazards on, everyone out and well away from traffic, then call for a tow—no DIY three‑legged dash home.

Before recovery, chock the remaining wheels; a pro should inspect studs, nuts, hub, suspension and brakes, because hidden damage is almost guaranteed.
