In NSW you get a full (unrestricted) licence after you’ve ticked off the Ls → P1 → P2 marathon, without racking up suspensions.
Under 25? Hold your L plates for at least 12 months and complete 120 logbook hours (including 20 at night), then pass the driving test for P1 (12 months).
Before moving to P2 (24 months) you must pass the Hazard Perception Test; to go full at the end of P2 you pass the Driver Qualification Test.
Age 25+? You’re exempt from the 12‑month L period and the 120 hours, but the P1 (12 months) and P2 (24 months) durations still apply.
So, best-case with no mishaps: roughly three years on provisional plates before that glorious plastic says “unrestricted”.
