In NSW, you need a pink slip (eSafety check) when renewing registration for most light vehicles that are 5 years old or more.
The inspection is done at an authorised station, lodged electronically, and the report is valid for about 6 months.
If your car is under 5 years old, no pink slip for rego renewal; if it’s unregistered/defected or coming back from the wilderness, that’s usually a blue slip, and your CTP is the famous green slip.
Trailers and caravans generally need an annual eSafety check once they’re 5+ years (light vehicles up to 4.5 t).
Expect to pay roughly $40–$50 for a standard light-vehicle pink slip—cheap insurance against surprises at the counter.
Edge cases exist (heavy vehicles, historic plates), so check the official rules, but for everyday NSW cars, that’s the drill.
