when to use 2 gear in automatic car Page 9794

That little “2” in an automatic isn’t decorative; it locks the box into second for control, not speed bragging rights.

Use it for engine braking on long descents, gentle getaways on slippery surfaces, towing at low speeds, or crawling through traffic and tracks where you don’t want kick-downs.

Keep speeds modest (think suburban limits), watch the revs, and shift back to D once the road opens so you don’t cook the transmission.

As ever, check your owner’s manual—some autos use “L” or paddle downshifts instead—but the idea’s the same: hold a lower gear to keep things tidy and predictable.
